The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sobieski pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Rutten blocks the body kick.
Sobieski missing with a left hand there. Rutten was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Sobieski takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

Sobieski shoots in and gets a takedown into Rutten's guard.
Rutten keeping full guard, as Sobieski tries to pass.
Rutten looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Sobieski stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rutten swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Rutten wants to sweep but no luck.
Sobieski works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Sobieski is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Rutten is staying active underneath Sobieski, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Sobieski wants to pass to mount but Rutten is defending the position.

Sobieski is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Rutten defends it well.

Sobieski wants to advance to full mount but Rutten doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sobieski wants to pass the guard but Rutten is keeping the position.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Rutten is trying to control the position but Sobieski postures up.

Sobieski drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Sobieski seems to have locked his on tight now - Rutten screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Sobieski, as he picks up the win!
