Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jason Sturd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Layzie Assassin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sturd comes to the cage accompanied by Young Jeezy - Death Before Dishonor. The crowd seem to be enjoying Assassin's choice of entrance music: Thuggish Ruggish Bone. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jason Sturd!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Layzie Assassin!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sturd fails to land with a series of punches.
Sturd swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Assassin fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Assassin throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Sturd counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Assassin uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Sturd.
A looping hook to the body misses from Assassin. Sturd does a little dance to reset his feet.
Sturd tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Assassin manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Sturd fails in his attempt to clinch.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

letting Sturd counter with a right hand.


It looks like Layzie Assassin has been cut.
Sturd lands a nice shot that snaps Assassin's head back.

and Assassin counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

Jason Sturd seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Assassin is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Sturd rather than just go for the knockout.
Assassin displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Sturd throws out the jab.

Sturd throws a hook to the side of Assassin's head but Assassin sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

and Sturd connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Assassin tries for a takedown but Sturd circles away easily
and Sturd cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Assassin throws a good cross that connects.

Sturd misses with a combination
and Assassin counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Assassin lands a slapping body shot.
Sturd throws a jab but it's blocked by Assassin.
Sturd throws a poor cross that misses
and Assassin makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Assassin shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Sturd counters with a nice uppercut.

Sturd closes the distance and pushes Assassin back into the cage.
Sturd pushes Assassin back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Assassin drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Sturd gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Jason Sturd has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Layzie Assassin.
Assassin is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Sturd gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Sturd lands with a left to the head.
Sturd lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.

Sturd is pressed up against the cage. Assassin has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Sturd down to the mat. Sturd avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Jason Sturd is winning the standup battle so far.
Assassin misses with a body punch

and Sturd counters with a crisp one two that drops Assassin! Sturd thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Assassin to his feet! Assassin is in big trouble!

Assassin is breathing heavily.

Sturd misses with a double jab
letting Assassin counter with a right hand.
Sturd fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Assassin manages to avoid it.
Assassin keeps the fight on the outside.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Assassin takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sturd pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Assassin back to the cage. Sturd follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

so Assassin counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Assassin is fighting to break Sturd's control of his arms but Sturd is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Assassin trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Assassin won't allow Sturd to get back to his feet.
Sturd pulls Assassin in close to his closed guard and prevents Assassin from doing any damage or advancing position.

Sturd wriggles free and stands up.

Assassin circles away from the clinch attempt.

Sturd rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

and Assassin counters with a nice double leg into side control. Sturd won't be happy with that.
Sturd regains half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Assassin not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Assassin seems to be looking for submissions.
Sturd slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Assassin is looking to advance position but Sturd has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Assassin really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jason Sturd.
I think Sturd has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
