Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Marius Van Veenen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Richard Kool!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Paulsen Ambrosius and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kool changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Van Veenen looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Kool goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Van Veenen has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Kool but great work by Van Veenen.
Kool pushes Van Veenen away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Van Veenen gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
You can see the frustration on Kool's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Van Veenen decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Kool bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Van Veenen tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Kool paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Kool scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Kool is looking to stand up but he'll have to free his leg first. Instead, Van Veenen manages to get to full guard.
Van Veenen wants to stand up but Kool is controlling him.
Kool would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Kool decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Van Veenen, up you get!
Van Veenen misses with a straight left.
Van Veenen tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Kool closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Van Veenen parries the strikes from Kool easily there. Kool is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Van Veenen to escape.

Kool decides to stand up, so the ref orders Van Veenen to his feet.

Kool shoots in and bounces Van Veenen off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Kool trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Van Veenen is breathing heavily.
Van Veenen is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Kool is controlling him.

Kool decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Kool moves into the clinch.
Van Veenen wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Van Veenen tries to break free but Kool pushes him back against the cage.
A frustrated look appears on Van Veenen's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Kool's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Kool shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Van Veenen manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Kool stands and steps away. Van Veenen gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Kool moves into the clinch.
Kool lands a knee to the head.
Van Veenen wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Kool has him pressed against the cage.

Kool breaks the clinch.

Kool shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Richard Kool dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



A momentary lapse in concentration from Van Veenen enables Kool to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Van Veenen manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Kool is standing up over Van Veenen. Van Veenen looks to escape but Kool dives into side control.
Van Veenen parries the strikes from Kool easily there. Kool is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Van Veenen to escape.
Kool postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Kool creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Kool stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Kool throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Van Veenen tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Kool is in Van Veenen's guard.

Kool gets to his feet - Van Veenen follows without any prompting.

Kool is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Van Veenen's half guard.
Richard Kool has got the better of the ground game so far.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Kool connects with a nice short shot to Van Veenen's temple.

Kool escapes and gets back to his feet.
Marius Van Veenen is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Kool shoots in and gets a takedown into Van Veenen's guard.

Kool stands up and waves to Van Veenen to follow him.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Kool breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Van Veenen looks to land a combination but Kool avoids it well.

Van Veenen gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Kool to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Van Veenen regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Kool.

Kool missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Kool connects with a couple of short punches.
Kool postures up in Van Veenen's guard and throws a big left but Van Veenen blocks it.

Kool gets to his feet - Van Veenen follows without any prompting.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Kool shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Van Veenen is trying to defend but Kool finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Van Veenen keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Kool drops an elbow to the side of Van Veenen's head.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kool thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Kool is looking for a kimura but Van Veenen is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kool to get the leverage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Richard Kool showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Van Veenen is trying to push Kool away but Kool has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Kool has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Van Veenen breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Kool drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Kool drops back, looking for a kneebar! Van Veenen looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Van Veenen looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Van Veenen!
Kool is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Van Veenen is controlling him well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Van Veenen has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Van Veenen misses with a looping left.
Van Veenen wants to slow Kool down by chopping away at his legs.
Van Veenen misses with a lunging right hand

and Kool decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Van Veenen's guard.
Kool working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Van Veenen's head.

Van Veenen is working an open guard so Kool takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Let's hope that Kool has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Richard Kool comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Kool has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
