Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Stevie Why (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lucifer Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Weapon of Choice. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Stevie Why!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Lucifer Jones!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Daniel Franklin and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones looks for the body kick but Why saw that one coming.
Jones tries a low kick but Why avoids it.
Jones cracks Why with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
A looping hook to the body misses from Jones. Why does a little dance to reset his feet.
Why shoots in looking for a takedown but Jones manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Why's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Stevie Why seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jones finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Why with a lazy takedown attempt
and Jones counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

and Why counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Jones's guard now.

Jones is looking to stand up but Why isn't so interested in that idea.
Why stays in close to Jones's body and controls the position.
Why trying to control but Jones is working from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Stevie Why wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Why gets a takedown into half guard.

Why is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Why thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Jones's head.
Why works his way into side control.
Jones is not content to let Why control the position.
Jones tries to improve position but can't.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Why scores with a couple of short elbows.

Why wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Jones, who protects the arm well.
Jones avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Why.
Why scoring with punches from side control.
Jones can't do much from the bottom here.
Why is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Jones really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Why. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Jones parries the strikes from Why easily there. Why is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Jones to escape.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Why is trying to get an arm triangle but Jones is defending well.
Jones tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Why wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Why creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Jones sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Why trying to control the action but Jones is working from the bottom.
Why sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Jones is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Why shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Jones but Jones pushes him off and we're back to square one.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Why throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Jones can do anything to dispel that myth.
Why dominating with strikes here.
Jones tries to reverse the position but Why maintains control.
Why scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Jones taking shots to the head.
Jones is in a horrible position here. Why smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Jones tries to hold on but Why postures up.
Stevie Why overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Why trying to control but Jones is having none of it.
Why postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Jones looks a forlorn figure.

Poor strikes thrown by Why there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Why has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Jones's face.
Why has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Why has Jones pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Why pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Jones tumbling to the mat - Why dives into Jones's guard.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Jones wanted to stand there but Why had control of the position.

Why looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Jones puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Jones throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Why sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Stevie Why is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Why shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Jones's guard.
Why is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Lucifer Jones has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Why, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
