PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Charlie Day (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and The Cabbage Snatcher (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Charlie Day!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, The Cabbage Snatcher!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Alec Ball and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Day looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Snatcher wants to get back to full guard.
Snatcher desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Day throwing shots but Snatcher is blocking nicely.
Snatcher is trying to maintain the position but Day is very close to passing his half guard.
Day wants to get back to his feet.

Day is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Snatcher doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Day.

Snatcher slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Snatcher wants to sweep but no luck.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Snatcher is on top in guard.
Snatcher stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Day swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Snatcher stands and throws Day's legs to the side, diving into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Day tries to bench press Snatcher off him but Snatcher keeps the position.

Snatcher tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Snatcher has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Snatcher goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Day rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Snatcher's guard! Nice work there by Day!

Day has gone for a leg lock! Snatcher slips out almost immediately though and dives into Day's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Snatcher tries to free his leg and advance position but Day is retaining full guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Snatcher accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Snatcher wants to pass the guard but Day is keeping the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Snatcher wants to control from the top but Day keeps moving.
Snatcher throws and elbow that misses. Day uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Snatcher's guard. Nice move by Day!
Snatcher is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Day being controlled here momentarily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Snatcher looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but The Cabbage Snatcher will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Snatcher with shots to the head and body - Day looks very uncomfortable down there.
Day is wriggling around trying to escape.
Snatcher lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Day's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Snatcher has control of Day's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Day regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Snatcher goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Day turns into him and now he's in Snatcher's guard.

Snatcher wants to sweep but no luck.
Snatcher has a closed guard, preventing Day from standing up.
Snatcher looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Day puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Day is looking to stall here but Snatcher recovers full guard.
Snatcher is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Day wants to stand but Snatcher has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Day might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Snatcher pulls Day in close to his closed guard and prevents Day from doing any damage or advancing position.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Snatcher throws his legs up looking for a submission but Day uses it to pass to side control.

Day is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Snatcher knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Snatcher manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Snatcher wants to take a breather but Day is having none of it.
Snatcher moves into full mount! Day won't be happy about that!
Snatcher lands a nice shot to the head.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The Cabbage Snatcher showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



Day closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Day is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Snatcher knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Snatcher is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Snatcher is nestled in close to Day, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Snatcher takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Snatcher wants to take a breather but Day is having none of it.

Day is in a horrible position here. Snatcher smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Snatcher pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
The Cabbage Snatcher has got the better of the ground game so far.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Snatcher lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.


Day is rocked!
BOOM! Snatcher connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Oh Day is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Snatcher postures up and lands a whopping elbow - oh that's hurt Day bigstyle! Two more strikes land for Snatcher and the fight is over!
