PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between David Durrant (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Einar Lee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, David Durrant!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Einar Lee!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Shigeki Sano and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lee waves his right hand out infront of him, looking to distract Durrant. Oh, he's unloaded a beast of a left hand - it worked! He's dropped Durrant to the canvas! Can he finish him!?


Durrant is rocked!


It looks like David Durrant has been cut.
Durrant preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Oh Durrant is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Lee passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Lee in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Durrant prevents Lee from moving into mount.
Durrant seems to have got his legs back now.
You can see the frustration on Durrant's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Lee misses with the ground and pound.
Lee throws a strike aimed at the side of Durrant's head but Durrant avoids it well.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Lee misses with a hook. Durrant ducked under it nicely.
Lee stuffs the takedown attempt from Durrant. Durrant gets slowly back to his feet.
Durrant fails with a takedown attempt.
Durrant looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Lee is fending him off so far but Durrant persists. Nope, Lee circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for David Durrant. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Lee connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Durrant's hands.

Durrant darts in and clinches Lee up against the ropes.

Durrant throws a punch but it's blocked by Lee.
Lee wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Durrant stalling in the clinch but Lee improves position.
Lee tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Durrant jumps guard but Lee stands there with Durrant around his waist. Durrant gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Durrant has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Lee avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Lee fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Lee misses with a hook from the clinch.

Durrant is working on a single leg takedown against the ropes. Lee can't fight it off and eventually Durrant manages to take the fight to the floor. Lee looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Durrant might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Lee has momentary wrist control but Durrant slips an elbow through the middle.
Lee bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Durrant's guard.
Lee throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Durrant works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Durrant looking for a sweep. Not yet Durrant, not yet.
Durrant is working hard here to advance position.
Durrant is breathing heavily.
Lee throws a big right hand that misses.
Durrant pulls Lee in close to prevent any damage.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Lee bobbing and weaving well here. And he's unloaded with a massive right hand that drops Durrant! He dives into his guard looking to finish!

Lee passes Durrant's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Durrant is trying to control but can't.
Durrant is looking to escape.
Lee lands strikes from half guard.
Lee trying to advance position but Durrant counters by regaining guard.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Lee lands a couple of digs.
Lee works over Durrant with some ground and pound from guard.
Durrant working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Lee.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Lee's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Lee thows a big elbow that misses.

Lee postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Lee works Durrant's body with a nice hook.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
A decent looking cross lands there for Lee.

and Durrant counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Lee's guard now.

Durrant is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Lee throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Durrant stopping the sweep attempt from Lee.
Lee bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Durrant's guard.

Durrant working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Lee doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Lee manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Lee tries to free his leg and advance position but Durrant is retaining full guard.

Durrant is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Lee has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Durrant is trying to control the action in half guard but Lee is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Durrant is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Lee is just riding it out for now. Durrant eventually gives up the hold.

Durrant fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Lee sprawls well initially but Durrant persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Durrant shoots in looking for a takedown. Lee tries to sprawl out of it but Durrant keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Lee manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Durrant tries to clinch up but Lee circles away and keeps his distance.

and Durrant counters with a takedown into side control.

Lee tries to buck Durrant off but Durrant is having none of it.

Durrant is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Lee knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Durrant thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Lee misses with an elbow from the bottom.
Lee manages to work his way to half guard, despite Durrant's best efforts.

Durrant tries to pass the half guard into mount. Lee knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Durrant is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Lee doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Durrant.

Durrant is working for a kimura but Lee is defending it quite comfortably.
Lee is refusing to be controlled, as Durrant sits in half guard.

Durrant not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Lee scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Durrant doesn't manage to clinch there - Lee circles away.
Lee drops a shoulder and throws a monster hook that connects perfectly to the side of Durrant's head, knocking him out cold! Lee is extatic as he celebrates with his cornermen.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 7:45 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Einar Lee!
