PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tony Wright (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Scarpa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Scarpa has chosen TATANKA THEME as his entrance music. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Chad Campbell and Reed Andrews.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wright misses with a few strikes there.
Nice body punch from Wright.
Wright swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Scarpa shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Scarpa showed some decent athleticism there.
Wright is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Scarpa's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Scarpa's back!
Wright has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Scarpa's body.

Tony Wright has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Wright lands a left and a right that send Scarpa crashing to the mat, dazed. Wright thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

It looks like Joe Scarpa has been cut.

Scarpa scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Wright is pushing Scarpa's head away, looking to escape. Scarpa manages to hold on to the position though.
Wright dodges the ground and pound from Scarpa.

Wright is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Scarpa asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Scarpa wants to take a breather but Wright is having none of it.

Wright kicks off Scarpa and gets to his feet.
Scarpa fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Wright manages to avoid it.
Scarpa has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Wright finds it's way round the side to connect with Scarpa's head.
Scarpa throws a front kick aimed at Wright's knee but Wright avoids it well.
Scarpa lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.

and Wright counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

That has opened up Joe Scarpa's cut even more.
Wright dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Scarpa looks gassed!

Wright ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

Scarpa walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Wright slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe Scarpa's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.
Scarpa is breathing heavily.
Wright ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Scarpa moves away.
Wright fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Scarpa looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Wright jabs Scarpa to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Wright lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Scarpa at a distance.
Wright fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
No joy there for Wright, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Scarpa takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Wright lands a nice hook to Scarpa's body. Scarpa takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Scarpa closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Scarpa lands in his opponent's guard.
Wright lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Scarpa!

Wright's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Tony Wright wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Wright tries to bum rush Scarpa with a series of wild strikes but Scarpa uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
