PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sean Scott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Clifford (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mark Clifford will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sean Scott!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mark Clifford!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Hugh Johnson and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Clifford looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Scott motions for Clifford to come forward. Scott throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Clifford tries to clinch up but Scott circles away and keeps his distance.

Scott gets a clinch.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Clifford.
Scott misses with an elbow over the top.
Clifford jumps guard but Scott stands there with Clifford around his waist. Clifford gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Scott's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Clifford postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Scott is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Clifford, into his guard.
Scott stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Clifford swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Scott gets to his feet. Clifford looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Scott feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Scott drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Scott jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Clifford crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Scott - the referee stops the clock and Clifford gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Scott. Clifford manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Sean Scott.
Well Scott has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
