The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rua tries to clinch up but Fagundes circles away and keeps his distance.
Fagundes looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Fagundes will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Fagundes enables Rua to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Fagundes manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Rua is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Fagundes is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Rua has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rua drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Rua jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

and Rua counters with a stiff jab, followed by a cross and an uppercut! That's too much punishment for Fagundes to take - he tumbles to the canvas, blood pouring from his nose, barely conscious. That's the end of the fight! Great knockout by Rua!
