PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ivan Karamazin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joern Otto Bondesen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Karamazin comes to the cage accompanied by Low Rider. Ivan Karamazin is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ivan Karamazin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Joern Otto Bondesen!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Illya Tyunina and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A low kick from Karamazin is predictable there
and Bondesen counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Karamazin takes a swing at Bondesen's ribcage but misses.
Bondesen misses with an uppercut. Karamazin saw that one coming.
Karamazin tries for a takedown but Bondesen circles away easily
and Bondesen makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

Karamazin shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Karamazin trying to control from Bondesen's half guard. Bondesen has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Karamazin trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Karamazin drops back, looking for a kneebar! Bondesen looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Bondesen looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Bondesen!

Bondesen tries to advance to mount but Karamazin denies him.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Ivan Karamazin wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Bondesen connects with a nice looking jab.

Karamazin shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bondesen is looking to control Karamazin's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Bondesen avoid being mounted?

Karamazin stopping the sweep attempt from Bondesen.

Bondesen is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Karamazin is looking for a sweep. Bondesen is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Bondesen is trying to control the action in half guard but Karamazin is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Karamazin shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Bondesen connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Karamazin changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Bondesen looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Karamazin advances to mount.
Bondesen tries to reverse the position but Karamazin maintains control.
Bondesen sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Karamazin is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Karamazin passes Bondesen's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Karamazin is thwarting Bondesen's attempts to control the position.

Bondesen avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Karamazin.
Bondesen tries to get to full guard but Karamazin has control of the leg.
Karamazin tries to pass to full mount but Bondesen defends it.

Karamazin perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Karamazin tries to pass the half guard into mount. Bondesen knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Karamazin wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bondesen keeps working.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Karamazin not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Karamazin is looking to advance position but Bondesen won't allow it.
Karamazin is stalling here. Bondesen is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Karamazin seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Bondesen has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Karamazin tries to contro but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.
Karamazin tries to reverse the position but Bondesen maintains control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Karamazin tries to lock up and control but Bondesen gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Karamazin is trying to escape the mount.

Bondesen controlling from mount.
Bondesen can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Karamazin is looking to escape.
Bondesen is trying to take his opponent's back.
Karamazin keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Bondesen trying to control but Karamazin is having none of it.
Karamazin is trying to escape the mount.
Karamazin on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Karamazin tries to get out of the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Bondesen thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Bondesen is trying to take his opponent's back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Ivan Karamazin will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Bondesen lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.

Bondesen gets caught flat footed, as Karamazin shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Bondesen is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Karamazin drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Bondesen dives on top into guard.

Bondesen got a little sloppy there for a moment and Karamazin has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Bondesen has managed to get both his arms back between Karamazin's legs - danger averted.
Bondesen slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Let's hope that Bondesen has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Karamazin shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Bondesen has his hands on Karamazin's head, controlling the position.

Bondesen looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Bondesen keeping moving, preventing Karamazin from controlling successfully.
Karamazin has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Bondesen takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Karamazin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bondesen swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Karamazin wants to control from the top but Bondesen keeps moving.
Karamazin trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Karamazin shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Bondesen finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.

and Bondesen counters with a left and a right that stings Karamazin.
Karamazin tries for a takedown but Bondesen circles away easily
and Bondesen counters with a stiff right hand.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ivan Karamazin. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Karamazin checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Karamazin throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Bondesen counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

Karamazin shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Bondesen manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Karamazin wants to pass the guard but Bondesen is keeping the position.
Karamazin trying to control the position from guard on top but Bondesen is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Bondesen bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Karamazin's guard.
Bondesen wants to control from the top but Karamazin keeps moving.
Bondesen won't allow Karamazin to get back to his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Ivan Karamazin.
I think Karamazin has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
