PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ray Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Randolph Duke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Williams might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to No More Mr. Nice Guy. Duke has chosen Pink Floyd - Money as his entrance music. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ray Williams!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Randolph Duke!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Lou da Vinci and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Williams gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Duke has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Williams is proving hard to escape from.
Williams knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Duke on the ground.
Duke is looking to work some ground and pound but Williams has wrist control.
Williams can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Duke controls the pace.
Williams is trying to keep Duke in close.
Duke looking to sit in guard and control but Williams gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Williams seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Ray Williams.
Williams connects with a jab.
Williams throws a series of punches but Duke avoids them all with ease.
A nice inside leg kick there by Williams. That's going to slow Duke down.
Ray Williams seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Williams throws a leg kick
and Duke counters with a straight right hand.
Williams misses with an uppercut

and Duke counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Williams's guard now.
Duke stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Williams swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Williams avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Duke wants to stand but Williams has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Williams wants to sweep here but Duke controlling him for the moment.
Williams working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Duke.

Duke drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Williams dives on top into guard.
Williams content to stall in guard here.

We're going to have a standup here because Ray Williams wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Williams throws an overhand right that lands on Duke's shoulder, as Duke tries to avoid the shot.
Williams throws a body kick the misses

and Duke counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Williams!
Williams is working to get back to half guard.
Duke throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Duke throwing strikes here but Williams is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

Duke swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Williams is now in Duke's guard. A big mistake from Duke there, giving up the dominant position!

Duke wants to sweep here but Williams controlling him for the moment.
Williams not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Randolph Duke will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Williams throws a lazy uppercut
and Duke connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Williams throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
A low kick from Williams is predictable there
and Duke counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Williams fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Duke has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Williams lands a nice leg kick that just misses Duke's sensitive parts.

Duke fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Williams sprawls well initially but Duke persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Williams is trying to control but can't.
Duke wants to control but Williams is keeping him busy.
Duke not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Williams holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Duke missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Duke thows a huge punch but Williams dodges it nicely.

Duke thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Williams's head.
Williams wants to improve his position but Duke is controlling well.

Williams is defending against the submission attempts here by Duke.
Duke is keen to just control but Williams is a slippery customer.

Duke is trying to work for a kimura but Williams is defending well.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Duke trying to control from half guard but Williams is working away.

Duke seems to be looking for submissions.
Williams is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Duke stalling away here and it's allowed Williams to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Williams keeping full guard, as Duke tries to pass.
Duke throws a big right hand that misses.
Duke is looking to advance position but Williams has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Duke is trying to escape the mount.
Duke has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Duke tries to lock up and control but Williams gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Duke is trying desperately to improve position.
Duke gets back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Ray Williams will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Duke dives in and grabs Williams's left leg, looking for a takedown. Williams pushes down on Duke's head and hops out.
Williams throws a poor cross that misses

and Duke counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Williams keeping full guard, as Duke tries to pass.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Duke drops back, looking for a kneebar! Williams looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Williams looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Williams!
Duke gets back to half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Duke is looking to control Williams's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Duke avoid being mounted?

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Randolph Duke hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Williams misses with a low kick.
Williams throws a leg kick but Duke checks it.
Williams looks to land a left hand but Duke moved out of range nicely.

Duke wants to control from the top but Williams keeps moving.
Duke wants to pass the guard but Williams is keeping the position.
Duke trying to control the position from guard on top but Williams is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Duke wants to stand but Williams has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Randolph Duke has got the better of the ground game so far.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Randolph Duke was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Duke looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Ray Williams has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Randolph Duke.
Williams tried to score with a low kick but Duke checks it.
Williams scores with a body shot.
Williams throws an off balance right hand

and Duke counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Williams's guard now.
Duke wants to control from the top but Williams keeps moving.
Duke pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Williams is keeping the position for now.
Duke looking to sit in guard and control but Williams gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

And that's the end of the fight!
Randolph Duke comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Duke has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
