Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mark Giel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Arnold Palmer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 8 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mark Giel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Arnold Palmer!
The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Igor Prikhodko and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Palmer shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Giel's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Palmer is looking to work some ground and pound but Giel has wrist control.

Palmer stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Giel swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Giel is breathing heavily.
Palmer is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Palmer lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Palmer thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Giel's head.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Palmer uses his free foot to push down on Giel's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Giel.

It looks like Mark Giel has been cut.

Palmer working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Palmer is landing with some decent strikes but Giel is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Giel is in a horrible position here. Palmer smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Palmer cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Palmer jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Giel is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Giel and Palmer has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Palmer creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Palmer connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Giel some visible discomfort.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Palmer changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Giel tries to avoid it but Palmer manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Giel to the ground. Giel escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Giel throws a combination. Palmer tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
