PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ray Wickleby (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kevin Curtain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kevin Curtain told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ray Wickleby!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kevin Curtain!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Damien Edna and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wickleby changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Curtain rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

and Wickleby counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Curtain's guard now.

Curtain is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Curtain is trying to keep Wickleby in close.
Wickleby pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Curtain is keeping the position for now.

Wickleby got a little sloppy there for a moment and Curtain has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Wickleby has managed to get both his arms back between Curtain's legs - danger averted.
Curtain is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Curtain has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Wickleby has passed into side control.
Wickleby creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Wickleby working the ground and pound from side control.


It looks like Kevin Curtain has been cut.
Wickleby cracks Curtain with a big right hand but Curtain just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Wickleby working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.

Wickleby is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Curtain has escaped the position, nice work there.
Wickleby looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Curtain is avoiding damage well.
Curtain tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Wickleby wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Curtain is trying to control Wickleby's posture but Wickleby avoids it.
Wickleby trying to control the position but Curtain is working away.
Curtain is looking to reverse the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wickleby working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Curtain takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.


That has opened up Kevin Curtain's cut even more.
Wickleby throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Curtain works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Still in half guard, Wickleby seems content to control.

Curtain looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Curtain has hold of Wickleby's hands but Wickleby slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.


The cut above Kevin Curtain's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Wickleby throwing shots but Curtain is blocking nicely.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Wickleby is trying to control the action in half guard but Curtain is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Curtain is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Wickleby scores with a couple of nice shots.

Wickleby is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Curtain doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Wickleby.
Wickleby lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Curtain is not content to let Wickleby control the position.
Wickleby drops an elbow to the side of Curtain's head.
Wickleby sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Curtain defending well though.
Wickleby thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Curtain's head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Wickleby scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wickleby not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Curtain wants to get back to full guard but Wickleby has mounted him!
BOOM! Wickleby connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Curtain wants to hold on but Wickleby pushes him away.
Wickleby in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.


Kevin Curtain's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Kevin Curtain's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Ray Wickleby!
Ray Wickleby retains his middleweight title!
