PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jimmy the fist (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Bob (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Jimmy the fist!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 12 - 1, fighting out of London, Mike Bob!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Daniel Bishop and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

the fist closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Bob to the mat! Bob manages to get full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
the fist is looking to work some ground and pound but Bob has wrist control.
the fist wants to stand but Bob has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
the fist looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Bob utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Bob can do anything to dispel that myth.
Bob scores with a couple of body punches from the bottom.
Bob has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Bob wants to stand but the fist is controlling the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bob pulls the fist in close to his closed guard and prevents the fist from doing any damage or advancing position.

the fist postures up in Bob's guard and throws a big left but Bob blocks it.

Bob takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
the fist lands an overhand right.
Bob looks gassed!
Bob tries for a takedown but the fist circles away easily
and the fist counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Bob thinking.
the fist throws a combination that misses
and Bob counters with a three punch combo that has the fist backing up. the fist nods at Bob to acknowledge the strikes.

the fist drives through with a takedown into guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Bob working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. the fist doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. the fist manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
the fist postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Bob is trying to control the position but the fist postures up.
the fist is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

We're going to have a standup here because Jimmy the fist wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

the fist changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Bob looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
the fist remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
the fist seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

the fist drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Bob is controlling the fist's trapped leg to prevent the fist from advancing to side control.
the fist working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Bob tries to kick the fist off but the fist keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

the fist is nestled in close to Bob, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Bob is trying to defend against the ground and pound but the fist scores with a couple of nice shots.

Bob doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Bob is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
the fist connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
the fist throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Bob.

the fist fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Bob on the side of the head.

the fist shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than the fist was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Jimmy the fist overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

the fist shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Bob's guard.

Bob takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Jimmy the fist showed his dominance in that final round.
Well the fist has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
