Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jake Shields!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jacque St Martin!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Shields closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
St Martin fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Shields is pressed up against the cage. St Martin has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Shields down to the mat. Shields avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
St Martin throws a series of strikes that have Shields backpedaling.

and St Martin counters with a stiff right hand.
St Martin closes the distance but Shields moves to the side

and Shields counters with a shoot takedown. St Martin fights it but they end up in guard.

Still in half guard, Shields seems content to control.
St Martin really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Shields. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Shields keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Shields is working for a kimura but St Martin is defending it quite comfortably.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

St Martin gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Shields to score an easy takedown into full guard.

St Martin is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

We're going to have a standup here because Jake Shields wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Shields shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Shields stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

St Martin tries to sprawl but Shields drives through with a takedown into half guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Shields lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Shields working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Shields lands a couple of digs.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shields changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. St Martin looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
St Martin wants to get back to his feet but Shields is dominant here and he's now got St Martin's back!

Shields sinks in the hooks and is looking for the choke. He's got it! St Martin taps out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:41 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Jake Shields!
