Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Zoe Washburn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Brian Puffer!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Leandro Rodrigues and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Washburn checks the leg kick.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Puffer, right into the meat.
Washburn misses with a hook. Puffer ducked under it nicely.
Puffer is looking to land body kicks.
Washburn shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Puffer as he jumps to the side.
Puffer lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.

and Washburn counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Puffer looking to hit a scissor sweep but Washburn is one step ahead there.

Washburn drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Puffer dives on top into guard.

Washburn wants to hit a switch here but Puffer passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Washburn there!

Washburn is working an open guard so Puffer takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Washburn throws and elbow that misses. Puffer uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Washburn's guard. Nice move by Puffer!

Washburn is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Puffer jumps into side control!

Puffer decides to stand back up.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Washburn throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Puffer was covering up waiting for the punch and Washburn finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Washburn drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Puffer manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Washburn has Puffer in his guard.

Puffer avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Puffer wants to get up but he can't break Washburn's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Washburn wants to stand up but Puffer is controlling him.

Washburn is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Puffer gets to his feet. Washburn looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Washburn avoids the head kick by Puffer.
Washburn shoots in for a takedown but Puffer shows good takedown defense.
Horrible takedown by Washburn or perhaps it was just good defense by Puffer which made him look bad.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Washburn shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Puffer's guard.

Washburn drops back, looking for a kneebar! Puffer looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Puffer looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Puffer!
Washburn tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Puffer wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Brian Puffer will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Puffer throws a chopping leg kick but Washburn manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Washburn loads up on a big right hand but Puffer slips the punch.

Washburn changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Puffer looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Washburn swings around for an armbar but Puffer sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Washburn's guard.

Washburn is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Puffer is pressing down on Washburn's thigh, looking to free his foot. Washburn is holding on for now.

Washburn is looking for a triangle but Puffer pushes his legs off easily.

Puffer got a little sloppy there for a moment and Washburn has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Puffer has managed to get both his arms back between Washburn's legs - danger averted.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Puffer wants to pass the guard but Washburn is keeping the position.

Washburn changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Puffer tries to avoid it but Washburn manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Puffer to the ground. Puffer escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Puffer buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Washburn crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Puffer - the referee stops the clock and Washburn gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Puffer. Washburn manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Brian Puffer showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.
