PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Wes Wolfen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Malham (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Malham has chosen Amorphis - House of Sleep as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Wes Wolfen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, John Malham!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Saam Ante and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Wolfen, as that shot connected.
A thudding body kick lands there by Malham!

Malham clinches.

Malham escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Wolfen swinging wildly here.
Wolfen throws a lazy uppercut

and Malham counters with a shoot takedown. Wolfen fights it but they end up in guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Wolfen trying to keep a closed guard but Malham is proving a slippery customer.
Malham trying to control the position from guard on top but Wolfen is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Malham slips nicely into half guard.
Wolfen wants to get back to his feet.
Wolfen is looking to improve his position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Malham is keen to just control but Wolfen is a slippery customer.
Wolfen wants to improve his position but Malham is controlling well.
Wolfen is refusing to be controlled, as Malham sits in half guard.
Malham stalling away here and it's allowed Wolfen to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Wolfen wants to control but Malham is keeping busy.

Malham seems to be looking for submissions.
Malham seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Wolfen does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Malham in particular looking to stall.

Well, if Malham is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Malham is trying to control. Wolfen wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Wolfen is looking for a sweep. Malham is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Malham is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Wolfen doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Malham.

Malham might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Wolfen kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Malham wants to lay and pray for a moment but Wolfen keeps working.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

OK we're going to have a standup here. John Malham hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Wolfen lands an overhand right.

Malham throws a head kick but Wolfen moves out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Malham showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Malham will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Malham changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Wolfen fights it off and pushes away nicely.
A nice combination there by Wolfen.

Malham bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Malham tries to score a power double leg takedown but Wolfen sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Malham somewhat.
Wes Wolfen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Malham.
Wolfen is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.

Wolfen lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Malham looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Wes Wolfen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Wolfen drops Malham with a beautiful combination! Malham stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Wolfen is looking for the KO!


Malham is rocked!
Wolfen avoids a kick to the body.
Malham is still on wobbly legs! Can Wolfen finish him?
Wolfen misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Malham uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Wolfen.
Malham seems to have recovered his senses.

Wolfen closes the distance and clinches.

Wolfen doesn't manage to clinch there - Malham circles away.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Wolfen checks a leg kick.

John Malham is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

and Malham decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Wolfen's guard.

Wolfen is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Wolfen is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Wes Wolfen has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Wolfen works his way to full guard. Good work.
Wolfen is trying to control the position but Malham postures up.

Wolfen thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Malham sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Wolfen's guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Wes Wolfen showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Malham has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
