PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Liam James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jacob Skyler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Skyler has chosen rum is for drinkin not for burning as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James stuffs the takedown.

James is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Skyler's half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with James in particular looking to stall.
Skyler is refusing to be controlled, as James sits in half guard.

James seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Skyler does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

James closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

James bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

James is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Skyler is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

and James counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Skyler avoids the attempt from James to control.
James's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Skyler throwing strikes here but James is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Liam James overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
James tries to lock up and control but Skyler gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

James is squirming around, avoiding Skyler's attempts to control the action.

James regains half guard.
James is trying to maintain the position but Skyler is very close to passing his half guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
James is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

James has one foot on Skyler's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
James doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Skyler counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Skyler shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

James is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Skyler wants to stand up but James is controlling the position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Skyler content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
James is looking to improve his position.
Skyler is stalling here. James is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Skyler seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and James has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Skyler manages to work his way to half guard, despite James's best efforts.

Jacob Skyler showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

James is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Skyler looks calm but he's in trouble here. James gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Skyler is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! James lets go of the hold and Skyler can pop his arm back in it's socket.
