PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Andrei Cote (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dave Summers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Summers has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Andrei Cote could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Dave Summers's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dave Summers!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Summer Carpenter and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cote shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Summers counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Summers looks gassed!
Cote gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
enabling Summers to counter with a crisp jab.

Cote shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Cote was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Cote is landing with some decent strikes but Summers is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Cote lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Summers defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Cote.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Cote with a couple of short strikes.
Cote knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Summers on the ground.
Cote has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Summers's face.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cote cracks Summers with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Cote lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Cote fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Cote has control of Summers's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Summers regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Summers is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Summers tries to lock up and control but Cote gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Cote swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Summers is now in Cote's guard. A big mistake from Cote there, giving up the dominant position!
Summers forces his way into half guard.
Well, if Summers is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Cote is controlling Summers's position as best he can from this difficult position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Andrei Cote dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Summers fails with the takedown

and Cote counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Summers's guard now.

Cote drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Cote jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Cote is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Summers is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Summers has escaped and now he's on top!
Cote could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Summers tries to free his leg and advance position but Cote is retaining full guard.
Cote is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Summers dives into side control.
Andrei Cote overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Summers gets to mount! Cote was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Summers can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Cote is looking to escape.
Summers sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Cote on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Cote tries to get out of the position.

Cote gets back to half guard.
Summers passes the guard and advances to mount!
Cote taking shots to the head.
Summers tries to control but Cote wriggling away.

Summers is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Cote has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Cote!

Summers has his foot on Cote's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Cote works his way back into a safe position though.

Cote drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Summers manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Cote has Summers in his guard.
Cote is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Summers thows a big elbow that misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

so Cote counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Cote drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Summers dives on top into guard.

Summers trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Cote preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Summers postures up.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Summers trying to control but Cote is working from the bottom.
Cote looking to control.

Cote wants to stand up but Summers is controlling him.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Summers lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Summers passes Cote's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Summers moves into full mount! Cote won't be happy about that!
Cote has given up his back here.

Even with his hooks in, Summers manages to miss with strikes from the back.
Summers scores with a nice shot to the head of his opponent. Cote is looking for a way out.
Summers keeps control of the position as Cote tries to break free.
A lull in the action here.
Cote rolls, trying to escape but Summers keeps control of the position.
What can Cote do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

Cote is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
Cote is keeping busy.
Summers keeps control of the position as Cote tries to break free.
Cote staying busy and making it hard for Summers to control.
Dave Summers has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Summers might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Cote kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Cote wants to get back to his feet.

Summers is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

Summers is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Cote with him. Cote is trying to defend but Summers has an arm under the chin now! Cote grimaces and is forced to tap out!
