The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maia throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Bes tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Maia is in Bes's guard.
Maia trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Bes trying to keep a closed guard but Maia is proving a slippery customer.
Maia seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bes looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Maia drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Maia jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Bes trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Bes has his foot on Maia's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Maia works his way back into a safe position though.
Bes escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Maia gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Maia pushing down on Bes's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Maia takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Maia trying to control the action but Bes is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Maia is pressing down on Bes's thigh, looking to free his foot. Bes is holding on for now.
Maia moves into full mount! Bes won't be happy about that!
Bes wants to control but Maia is having none of it.
Maia controlling from mount.
Bes is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Maia swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!
