PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kyrstyof Soshykski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gerard Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Raising the Bar. Both these guys are coming into the fight with injuries so let's see if that has a bearing on the fight. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kyrstyof Soshykski!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Gerard Jones!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Damien Edna and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Soshykski counters with a straight right hand.
Jones looks gassed!
The fight stays on the outside here - Jones looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Soshykski throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Jones tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Soshykski is in Jones's guard.
Soshykski passes Jones's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Jones is trying to control but can't.
Soshykski seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Jones does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Soshykski is just content to waste time from the top position. Jones takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Soshykski wants to control from the top but Jones keeps moving.
Soshykski throwing strikes but missing.

Soshykski postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Soshykski trying to stand up but can't free himself from Jones's guard.

Soshykski stands and steps away. Jones gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Soshykski drives through and clinches with Jones against the cage.
Soshykski avoiding damage as Jones throws knees to the body.

Soshykski has a closed guard, preventing Jones from standing up.

Jones wants to control from the top but Soshykski keeps moving.
Soshykski is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Soshykski stands up out of the half guard.
Soshykski looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Jones shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Soshykski counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Jones won't allow Soshykski to pass to mount.
Jones is looking to escape.
Soshykski stalling.
Jones wants to get back to his feet.

Soshykski moves into full mount! Jones won't be happy about that!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Soshykski lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Jones is trying to escape the mount.
Soshykski controlling from mount.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Soshykski shoots in but Jones avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Soshykski checks a leg kick.

Jones gets a clinch.

Soshykski pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Jones clinches up with Soshykski and pushes him back against the cage.
Jones pushes Soshykski back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

Soshykski pulls guard effortlessly.

Soshykski has his foot on Jones's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Jones works his way back into a safe position though.
Soshykski is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Soshykski is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Jones wants to control from the top but Soshykski keeps moving.

Soshykski working a defensive guard but Jones passes into half guard.
Jones is trying to control. Soshykski wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The fighters are battling for position here. Soshykski manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Jones would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Jones wanted to stand there but Soshykski had control of the position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Soshykski has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Jones can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Soshykski wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Jones wanted to stand there but Soshykski had control of the position.

Jones postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Soshykski is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Jones, into his guard.

Jones pushes Soshykski off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Jones throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.

Jones gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Soshykski to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Soshykski stops Jones from standing up.
Kyrstyof Soshykski overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Soshykski is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Jones wants to get back to his feet but Soshykski is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Soshykski is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Jones wriggles free and stands up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kyrstyof Soshykski dominated that second round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Jones stuffs the takedown attempt from Soshykski. Soshykski gets slowly back to his feet.

Jones drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Jones lands an elbow.
Soshykski is trying to control Jones's posture but Jones avoids it.
Jones is looking to take a break and control but Soshykski is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Soshykski is looking for a sweep.
Soshykski is trying to control Jones's posture but Jones avoids it.
Soshykski sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Jones decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Soshykski gets tackled into the cage by Jones. Jones maintains the clinch.
Jones misses with a shot to the kidneys.

Soshykski breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Kyrstyof Soshykski is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Jones has closed the distance and engaged Soshykski in a clinch.

Soshykski escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Soshykski stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Soshykski wants it to stay on the feet.

and Jones counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Soshykski!

Gerard Jones has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Kyrstyof Soshykski is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Soshykski tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Gerard Jones comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Soshykski has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
