PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Adam Macku (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Drake Retso (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Drake Retso!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Yukihiro Shimada.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Retso scores with a takedown into Macku's guard.
Macku utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Retso digs a good body shot into Macku's ribs.
Macku darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Some bone on bone action there as Macku checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Macku lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Retso backwards.

Macku lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.

Retso is fighting off a takedown attempt but Macku is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Retso to the mat. Retso regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Macku seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Macku is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Macku takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Macku wants to lay and pray for a moment but Retso keeps working.

Retso is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Macku is staying active.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Poor strikes thrown by Macku there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Retso has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.

Macku will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Retso up against the cage.
