PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Nathan Savage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Edward Cole (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Nathan Savage!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Edward Cole!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Franklyn Lucas and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Savage looks to land a right hand but Cole moved out of range.
Cole falls off balance throwing a combination
and Savage counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Savage misses with a lunging right hand
and Cole counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Cole displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Savage throws out the jab.
Savage dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Cole misses with an uppercut
and Cole takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.


It looks like Edward Cole has been cut.
Cole just misses with a punch to the body.
Savage throws a hook but Cole avoids it easily.
Cole steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Savage.
Savage fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Savage is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Cole throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Savage lands a glancing blow to the side of Cole's head.
A big right from Cole misses.
Savage uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Cole.
Savage closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Savage misses with a double jab
and Cole counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Savage misses with an uppercut. Cole saw that one coming.
Cole misses with a shot to the body

and Savage counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Savage lands a shoulder strike.
A right hook to the body lands for Savage.
Nice body punch from Savage.
Cole is working for takedown but Savage is calmly controlling the position for now.
Savage lands a right hand that snaps the head of Cole backwards.
Savage lands a left hand that snaps the head of Cole backwards.
Savage is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Savage lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
Savage stalls.
Savage softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.
Cole fails to pull guard.
Cole jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Savage walks away with a smile on his face. Cole gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Nathan Savage has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Edward Cole.
Savage misses with a series of wild punches.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Savage checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Savage throws a lazy uppercut
and Cole counters with a right hand to the body.
Savage fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Cole on the side of the head.
Sloppy strikes from Savage. Those never looked like landing.
Cole misses with an uppercut

and Savage counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Savage lands a nice uppercut.
Cole being controlled against the cage.
Cole tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Savage smiles and moves away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cole rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Savage counters with a left to the body.
Nathan Savage seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Savage misses with a lunging right hand

and Cole counters with a shoot takedown. Savage fights it but they end up in guard.
Savage looking to hit a scissor sweep but Cole is one step ahead there.
Savage knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Cole on the ground.
Savage wants to get back to his feet but Cole is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Cole is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Cole pushing down on Savage's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Edward Cole's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Savage dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Cole attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Savage misses with a hook
and Cole counters with a left to the body.
Cole throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Savage sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Cole misses with a takedown
and Savage counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Cole shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Cole tries to keep at a distance but Savage has taken the fight into the clinch.
Cole jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Savage walks away with a smile on his face. Cole gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Savage misses with a lunging right hand

and Cole counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Savage!
Cole looking to control but Savage is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Savage on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Savage tries to get out of the position.

Cole is working close to his opponent, looking to work a submission by the looks of things. Oh, he's managed to get a guillotine from mount as his opponent reached up! That looks tiiiiight! Will he tap? YES, he's tapped! Impressive submission by Cole!
