The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Joe looking to control but Silva is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Joe misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Joe moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Silva has worked his arm free - good work by Silva!

Silva gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Joe thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

Silva has his takedown stuffed
and Silva takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Silva shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Joe manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Silva drops back, looking for a kneebar! Joe looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Joe looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Joe!

Joe is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Silva is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Silva is not content to let Joe control the position.
Silva is breathing heavily.

Joe tries to score with some ground and pound. Silva controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Silva doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Joe counters with a body kick.
Joe moves into range and connects with a jab.
Joe comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Joe goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Silva gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Joe counters with a nice double leg into side control. Silva won't be happy with that.
Joe tries to move to mount but Silva blocks the move with his legs.
Lennon Joe overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Silva is letting Joe control him for a moment.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Joe stands up.

Joe moves into range and clinches up with Silva.

Joe tries for a takedown but Silva manages to get underhooks.
Silva changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Joe fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Joe throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Silva drops back looking for a leg! Joe is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Joe manages to kick Silva off! Silva jumps back into Joe's guard.
Joe controls Silva momentarily but Silva frees himself.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Joe is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Silva thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Joe scores with a couple of body punches from the bottom.

Silva decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Joe feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
