PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ilpo Martikainen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vladimir Putin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vladimir Putin told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Putin gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Putin misses with a knee to the head.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Putin.
Putin is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.
Martikainen wants to break free but Putin has control.
Putin dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Putin.
Martikainen has had enough of the clinch but Putin keeps him there for the moment.
Martikainen managing to block the knees to the body from Putin.

Putin's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Good exchange - Martikainen coming out on top.
Martikainen bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Putin changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Martikainen tries to avoid it but Putin manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Martikainen to the ground. Martikainen escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Martikainen scores with a hook.
Martikainen lands the left hand.
Martikainen connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Putin momentarily.
Vladimir Putin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Putin fails to land the takedown.

Martikainen slaps away a takedown attempt from Putin, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Ilpo Martikainen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vladimir Putin.
Putin looks gassed!
Martikainen fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Martikainen lands with a hook. Putin tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Martikainen stuffs the takedown.
Martikainen scores with the left hand. Putin knows he should have avoided that one.
Martikainen thuds his right hand into Putin's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Martikainen drops Putin with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Putin looks back up at him and smiles so Martikainen waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.

Putin is rocked!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Martikainen drops Putin with a beautiful combination! Putin stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Martikainen is looking for the KO!
Putin is still on wobbly legs! Can Martikainen finish him?
Martikainen pounces like a tiger and cracks Putin with a vicious hook! Putin is down but not out! Martikainen follows up with more strikes forcing the ref to jump in and stop it!
