Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mirko Novak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aristarh Grobokov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Novak comes to the cage accompanied by Wild Boys. Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mirko Novak!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Aristarh Grobokov!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Igor Prikhodko and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Novak wants to clinch up but Grobokov keeps it at a distance.
Grobokov scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.

Novak breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Grobokov will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Grobokov seems to be looking for submissions.
Novak could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Grobokov thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Novak's head.

Grobokov shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Novak manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Novak is looking to control Grobokov's arms but Grobokov gets an underhook and turns him. Now Novak has his back to the cage.
Grobokov drops down looking for an ankle pick but Novak pulls his leg out and moves away.

Grobokov tries for a takedown but Novak sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Grobokov closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Novak quickly recovers to half guard.

Grobokov is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Novak defends it well.

Grobokov decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

and Novak counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Novak.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Novak breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Grobokov looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Aristarh Grobokov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Grobokov has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Grobokov avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Grobokov comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Grobokov closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Grobokov lands in his opponent's guard.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Aristarh Grobokov hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

and Novak counters with a low kick, right behind Grobokov 's knee.

and Novak counters with a head kick. That will keep Grobokov thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Grobokov finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Grobokov fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

and Novak counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Grobokov throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Novak's waist but Novak gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Grobokov off to one side.

and Novak counters with a head kick. That will keep Grobokov thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Grobokov can do anything to dispel that myth.
You get the feeling that Grobokov really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Novak misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Grobokov really wants to buck Novak off and get back to his feet.

Novak moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Grobokov has worked his arm free - good work by Grobokov!
Novak is looking to take a break and control but Grobokov is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Novak throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Grobokov works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.

Novak is looking for submissions but instead, Grobokov has regained full guard.
Novak wanted to stand there but Grobokov had control of the position.
Novak thows a big elbow that misses.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Novak looking to sit in guard and control but Grobokov gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Grobokov postures up in Novak's guard and throws a big left but Novak blocks it.

A close second round but Aristarh Grobokov will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!

Grobokov postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Novak looks a forlorn figure.
Grobokov is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Novak can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Novak tries to hold on but Grobokov pushes him away.
Novak is wriggling around trying to escape.
Mirko Novak has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Novak's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Grobokov controlling the pace for now.
Grobokov prevents Novak from getting the reversal.

Grobokov wants to finish this one by submission but Novak is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Grobokov.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Grobokov cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Grobokov is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Novak can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Grobokov is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Novak has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Aristarh Grobokov comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Grobokov winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
