PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Flok Numbers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brock Brutus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brutus is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by ladies and gentleman. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Flok Numbers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Brock Brutus!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brutus throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Numbers connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Brutus gets tackled into the cage by Numbers. Numbers maintains the clinch.
Brutus keeps control of Numbers as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Brutus working aggressively here.
Brutus wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Numbers blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Numbers's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Brutus lands with a light punch inside.
Brutus goes for a takedown in the clinch but Numbers prevents it.
Numbers can't break the clinch.

Brutus breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Brutus tries for a takedown but Numbers circles away easily
and Numbers counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Brutus dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Numbers throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Brutus tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Numbers is in Brutus's guard.
Brutus controls Numbers momentarily but Numbers frees himself.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Brutus can do anything to dispel that myth.
Brutus is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Numbers slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

and Brutus counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Brutus.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Brutus has Numbers pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Numbers manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Flok Numbers has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brock Brutus.

Numbers jumps guard and drags Brutus to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Brock Brutus hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Numbers wants to clinch but Brutus slips to the side
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

Numbers rushes Brutus and presses him up against the cage.
Brutus tries to break free but Numbers pushes him back against the cage.

Numbers manages to break the clinch.

Numbers scores with a takedown into Brutus's guard.
Numbers preventing the sweep.
Brutus looks gassed!
Numbers wants to stand but Brutus is controlling his posture from full guard.
Brutus bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Numbers's guard.
Numbers wants to stand but Brutus is controlling the position.

Numbers has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Brutus is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Numbers.

Brutus has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Brutus misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Brutus postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Numbers looks a forlorn figure.
Brutus wants to control the pace but Numbers is squirming around nicely.
Numbers tries to lock up and control but Brutus gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Numbers is in all sorts of trouble here.
Numbers avoids a series of strikes thrown by Brutus.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Flok Numbers will probably get the nod.

Numbers darts in and clinches Brutus up against the cage.

Brutus closes the distance but Numbers moves to the side

and Numbers counters with a shoot takedown. Brutus fights it but they end up in guard.
Numbers wants to control from the top but Brutus keeps moving.
Brutus wants to stand but Numbers is controlling the position.
Brutus is pulling down on Numbers's head to control his posture.
Brutus wants to sweep here but Numbers controlling him for the moment.
Brutus is breathing heavily.

Numbers knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Brutus on the ground.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Brutus is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Flok Numbers has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Numbers moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.


It looks like Brock Brutus has been cut.
Numbers doesn't manage to clinch there - Brutus circles away.
Brutus throws a left and a right that both miss

and Numbers counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Brutus!

Brutus keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Brutus squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Numbers content just to control the position here.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Numbers with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Numbers seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Brutus for as long as he can get away with.
Brutus tries to hold on but Numbers pushes him away.
Numbers throwing strikes here but Brutus is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

Brutus shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Numbers manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Numbers closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Brutus did well to prevent Numbers getting side control.
Brutus is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Numbers's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Numbers's back!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Numbers, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
