Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Phil Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Phil Davis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mike Williams!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Eddie Farnsworth and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Davis misses with a combination
letting Williams counter with a right hand.

Williams shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Williams showed some decent athleticism there.
Davis wants to get back to full guard.
Williams is taking a breather. Davis says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Williams's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Williams wants to lay and pray for a moment but Davis keeps working.

Davis looks like he's trying to stand up.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Mike Williams was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Davis misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Williams.
Davis throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Williams counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Davis's guard now.
Davis being controlled here, momentarily.
Williams wanted to stand there but Davis had control of the position.
Williams slips nicely into half guard.
Williams thows a huge punch but Davis dodges it nicely.

Williams is trying to control. Davis wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Williams throws a strike but Davis avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Williams seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Davis is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Williams is pressing down on Davis's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Davis wants to get up but he can't break Williams's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Williams really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Davis. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Davis looking to sit in guard and control but Williams gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Williams wants to control from the top but Davis keeps moving.

Williams decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Williams fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.

Davis swinging wildly here.

Williams looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Davis is on top in guard.
Williams controls Davis momentarily but Davis frees himself.
Williams throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Davis trying to control but Williams is working from the bottom.

Davis wants to control from the top but Williams keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Davis darts in trying to clinch

and Williams counters with a single leg into guard. Davis didn't expect that.
Williams tries to free his leg and advance position but Davis is retaining full guard.
Williams postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Williams pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Davis is keeping the position for now.

Williams postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Davis is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Williams, into his guard.
Davis wants to control from the top but Williams keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Davis missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Davis trying to control the position from guard on top but Williams is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Williams is trying to keep Davis in close.
Davis wants to control from the top but Williams keeps moving.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Mike Williams has got the better of the ground game so far.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Phil Davis wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Williams closes the distance and clinches.
Williams lands a left hand.
Williams is pressed up against the cage. Davis has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Williams down to the mat. Williams avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Davis throws a sloppy head kick

and Williams counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Williams.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
The crowd are getting on Williams's back here. They're not happy about his lack of aggression in the clinch.
Davis tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Williams smiles and moves away.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Williams.
Williams is breathing heavily.
A head kick misses from Davis.
Davis misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Davis throws a head kick that misses

and Williams counters with a single leg into guard. Davis didn't expect that.
Davis looking to control.
Davis working a defensive guard but Williams manages to pass into side control anyway.

Williams stands up.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Williams lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Davis is looking to escape.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Williams in particular looking to stall.
Davis tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Williams manages to move to mount!
Davis regains half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Davis trying to control from the bottom.
Williams is keen to just control but Davis is a slippery customer.
Davis slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Williams wants to control from the top but Davis keeps moving.
Davis looking to control.

Mike Williams showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Davis's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Davis gets off balance looking for a body kick

and Williams counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Davis!
Davis can't escape the position.
Davis is squirming around, avoiding Williams's attempts to control the action.

Williams jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Davis manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Davis wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.

Davis regains half guard there - taking advantage of Williams's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
Williams wants to control but Davis is keeping him busy.
Williams takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Davis wants to control but Williams is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Davis really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Davis is staying active underneath Williams, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Williams prevents Davis from standing back up.
Williams is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Davis is trying to control the position from the bottom.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Davis manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Davis looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Davis is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Williams has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Williams!

Davis controls Williams momentarily but Williams frees himself.
Davis wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Williams is now in half guard.
Williams trying to control the pace.
Davis is not content to let Williams control the position.
Phil Davis has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Davis has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Williams is working away from the top position though.
Williams trying to advance position but Davis counters by regaining guard.

Davis working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Williams doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Williams manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Davis wants to sweep here but Williams controlling him for the moment.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mike Williams comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Williams has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
