PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Kullervo Haikas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tommy Kane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kane is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Gang of Four - I love a Man in Uniform. Tommy Kane is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kullervo Haikas!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tommy Kane!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Stewart Dunkirk and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Haikas swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Kane counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Kane swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Haikas misses with a double jab
and Kane counters with a nice low kick that buckles Haikas's knee momentarily.
A punch lands to the side of Kane 's head but he takes it in his stride.

Kane drives through with a takedown into guard.
Haikas being controlled here, momentarily.
Kane wants to pass the guard but Haikas is keeping the position.
Kane is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Kane trying to control but Haikas is working from the bottom.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Tommy Kane was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Kane cracks Haikas with a right hand to the side of the head.
Kane moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Haikas misses with a right hand

and Kane counters with a shoot takedown. Haikas fights it but they end up in guard.

Haikas is trying to stand up here but Kane is controlling him well.
Kane is looking to take a break and control but Haikas is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Kane tries to pass the half guard into mount. Haikas knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Haikas wants to get back to his feet.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Haikas tries to kick Kane off in order to stand up. Kane Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.

Kane swings around for an armbar but Haikas sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Kane's guard.
Haikas is fighting to break Kane's control of his arms but Kane is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Kane is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Kane pulls Haikas in close to prevent any damage.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Tommy Kane wasn't active enough on the ground.

and Kane counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Haikas ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

and Kane counters with a right hand to the body.
Haikas throws a left and a right that both miss
and Kane counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Kullervo Haikas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kane scores with a jab to the head.
Haikas misses with a lunging right hand
and Kane counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Haikas thinking.
Kane throws a low kick but it's checked well by Haikas.
Haikas throws an off balance right hand
and Kane counters with a lovely shot to the body.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Kane walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Haikas throws a right hand that misses
and Kane counters with a nice body shot.
Kane throws a nice looking combination but Haikas bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Kane slips a nice elbow through Haikas's hands, connecting with Haikas's forehead.

Kane takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kane is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Haikas is just riding it out for now. Kane eventually gives up the hold.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Kane seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Haikas is defending against the submission attempts here by Kane.

Haikas wants to get back to his feet.
Haikas avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Kane.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kane is looking to advance position but Haikas won't allow it.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Haikas is not content to let Kane control the position.

Haikas has hold of Kane's hands but Kane slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Tommy Kane showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Haikas defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Kane.
Kane misses the shot to the body.
Kane has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Kane shoots in but no luck this time.
Kane is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Haikas rather than just go for the knockout.

and Kane counters with a stiff right hand.
Haikas thumps Kane with a low kick.
Haikas looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Kane takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Haikas throws a lazy uppercut
and Kane connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Haikas connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Haikas lands a right hook to the body.
Haikas throws a combination. Kane tries to block but a couple of punches get through.


Kane is rocked!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Haikas misses with a left hand

and Kane counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Haikas thinking.

Haikas throws a lazy head kick
and Kane counters with a three punch combo that has Haikas backing up. Haikas nods at Kane to acknowledge the strikes.
Kane thows a body shot but no joy.
Haikas throws a right and a left that Kane avoids nicely.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Haikas swings widly with a right hand

and Kane counters with a takedown into side control.
Kane trying to control the action but Haikas is working from the bottom.
Kane content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Haikas is not content to let Kane control the position.

Haikas wants to get back to his feet but Kane drags him back down.
Haikas stops Kane from passing to mount.

Kane lands a decent elbow from side control.
Kane taking a break here but Haikas is having none of it and regains half guard.
Kane not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Kane thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Haikas's head.

Haikas is staying active underneath Kane, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Kane is just content to waste time from the top position. Haikas takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Kane is wobbling all over the place through exhaustion. Will he make it to the final bell?

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Kane thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Tommy Kane is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Tommy Kane comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Kane has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
