The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chen throws a left and a right that both miss
and Payaso counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Chen scores with a takedown into Payaso's guard.

Payaso manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Payaso keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
No joy there for Chen, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Payaso fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Chen sprawls well initially but Payaso persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Chen has one foot on Payaso's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Chen feints a jab promting Payaso to slip. Chen then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Payaso slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Chen connects with a body shot that sends Payaso's belly button to the back.
Payaso throws a wild body kick that Chen sees coming a mile off.

and Payaso counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Payaso.
Payaso engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Payaso decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Chen, up you get!
Chen throws a series of punches but Payaso avoids them all with ease.
Payaso shoots in looking for a takedown but Chen manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Payaso's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Chen falls off balance throwing a combination
and Payaso counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Chen is lucky that one didn't land flush.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

A close round but Deshawn Payaso will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Chen goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Deshawn Payaso showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Shawn Chen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Deshawn Payaso.
Payaso takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Chen has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Payaso uses from the top position.

Chen changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Payaso tries to avoid it but Chen manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Payaso to the ground. Payaso escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
