Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Anthony Joshua!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Billy Mercer!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Colin Fotheringham and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mercer changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Joshua looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Mercer wants to control but Joshua is keeping him busy.
You can see the frustration on Joshua's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Joshua pushes Mercer away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Mercer gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Joshua wants to control but Mercer postures up.
Joshua manages to get back to half guard.
Joshua wants to get back to his feet.
Mercer throwing shots but Joshua is blocking nicely.
Mercer missing with the ground and pound from half guard.

Joshua is controlling Mercer's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Joshua is looking to control Mercer's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Joshua avoid being mounted?

We're going to have a standup here because Anthony Joshua wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Mercer tries to clinch but Joshua is having none of it.

Joshua closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Joshua is trying to control the action in half guard but Mercer is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Mercer controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mercer is looking to escape.
Joshua is controlling the pace.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Joshua frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Joshua moves to take his opponent's back.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Joshua is hanging on to Mercer's back as he tries to escape.
Joshua has good solid back control here.
Mercer really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Joshua. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
Joshua has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mercer shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Joshua counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Joshua is looking for a kimura but Mercer is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Joshua to get the leverage.
Joshua uses his free foot to push down on Mercer's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Mercer.
Mercer is trying to escape the mount but Joshua keeps good control and instead manages to take Mercer's back.

Mercer defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Joshua's arms.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Joshua has both hooks in and is working for a choke. Mercer is in real trouble here. Joshua gets an arm under the chin and tightens the submission attempt... is this the end? Yes, Mercer is tapping out! Joshua wins by rear naked choke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:03 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Anthony Joshua!
