Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Igor Emelianenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jordan Hughes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Igor Emelianenko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jordan Hughes!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Johanna Lukiainen and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Emelianenko throws a lazy uppercut
and Hughes counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Hughes looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Emelianenko throws a right hand that Hughes ducks under and follows up with a left that Hughes also avoids with ease.
Emelianenko throws a head kick that misses
and Hughes counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Emelianenko takes a swing at Hughes's ribcage but misses.
Emelianenko lands with a nice body punch.
Emelianenko lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Emelianenko will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Emelianenko has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Igor Emelianenko.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Emelianenko rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Hughes moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Emelianenko could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The fighters circling - Emelianenko throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

and Hughes counters by moving into the clinch.
Emelianenko stalling in the clinch but Hughes improves position.
Hughes landing some nice looking knees to the body.
Emelianenko fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Emelianenko jumps guard but Hughes stands there with Emelianenko around his waist. Emelianenko gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Igor Emelianenko. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hughes on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Hughes is trying to break free.
Emelianenko tries to pull guard but Hughes won't allow it.
Hughes has Emelianenko pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Emelianenko manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Hughes is fighting off a takedown attempt but Emelianenko is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Hughes to the mat. Hughes regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Emelianenko is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Hughes can do to turn this around?
Emelianenko wants to control from the top but Hughes keeps moving.
Hughes is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Emelianenko, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
