Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gustav Reich (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fedor Emelianenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Emelianenko is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Twinkle Twinkle Little Star Re-Mix. Gustav Reich has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Fedor Emelianenko!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Dean Styles and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Emelianenko gets caught flat footed, as Reich shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Reich tries to free his leg and advance position but Emelianenko is retaining full guard.
Reich is stalling in the full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Gustav Reich.
Reich steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Emelianenko.

Emelianenko takes a swing at Reich's ribcage but misses.
Emelianenko displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Reich throws out the jab.
A bone on bone clash there as Emelianenko blocks the leg kick.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Reich is defended easily by Emelianenko.
A looping hook to the body misses from Emelianenko. Reich does a little dance to reset his feet.
Gustav Reich seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Reich throws the left hand but Emelianenko avoids the punch easily.

and Emelianenko counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Reich fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Emelianenko sprawls well initially but Reich persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Emelianenko is not content to let Reich control the position.
Reich will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Reich lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Reich is looking for a kimura but Emelianenko is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Reich to get the leverage.
Emelianenko really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Reich. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Reich is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Emelianenko has managed to free his arm - good work.
Emelianenko pushes Reich off looking to stand but Reich dives back in and keeps control.
Reich is trying to control the action in half guard but Emelianenko is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Reich seems to be working for a kimura but Emelianenko defends the submission attempt.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Reich wants to pass the guard but Emelianenko is defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Reich uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Emelianenko.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Reich loads up on a big right hand but Emelianenko slips the punch.
Reich looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Emelianenko is fending him off so far but Reich persists. Nope, Emelianenko circles away and we're back to standing.

Emelianenko tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Reich was well out of range. Poor timing from Emelianenko.

Reich shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Emelianenko is trying to defend but Reich finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Reich passes the guard and advances to mount!
Reich misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Emelianenko wants to control but Reich is having none of it.
Reich throwing strikes here but Emelianenko is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Emelianenko can't escape the position.

Reich throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Reich is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Emelianenko to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Emelianenko shrugs it off.

Emelianenko wants to hold on but Reich pushes him away.

Reich working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Emelianenko is desperately trying to improve his position but Reich has a good base and remains in mount.

Reich trying to control but Emelianenko is having none of it.
Reich thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.

Reich is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Emelianenko is surviving well by controlling Reich's body position as best he can.

It looks like Gustav Reich has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!
