PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Grant Gordon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Melvin Michaels (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gordon kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Last resort. Grant Gordon has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Grant Gordon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Melvin Michaels!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Patrick Alders and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gordon has his takedown stuffed
and Michaels counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Michaels has closed the distance and engaged Gordon in a clinch.
Michaels misses with a hook from the clinch.
Michaels misses with a punch on the inside.
Michaels throws an elbow but it misses.
Michaels tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Gordon blocks the elbow strike.

Michaels tightens his grip and picks Gordon up, before dumping him to the ground. Gordon manages to land in guard.
Gordon is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Gordon pulls Michaels in close to prevent any damage.
Gordon is looking to stand up but Michaels isn't so interested in that idea.
Gordon is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Gordon has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Michaels off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Gordon gets the takedown into side control.
Michaels is not content to let Gordon control the position.
Gordon prevents Michaels from escaping the position.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Michaels can do anything to dispel that myth.
Michaels defending against the ground and pound.

Gordon tries for a kimura but Michaels is defending well.
Michaels is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Gordon asserts his dominance and retains side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gordon wants to control for a moment but Michaels uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.
Well, if Gordon is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Gordon's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Gordon looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Gordon is keen to just control but Michaels is a slippery customer.

Gordon uses his free foot to push down on Michaels's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Michaels.

Michaels gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Michaels keeping moving, preventing Gordon from controlling successfully.
Michaels wants to stand but Gordon is controlling the position.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Gordon closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Gordon is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Michaels makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Grant Gordon is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Gordon misses with a takedown attempt

and Michaels counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Gordon's guard now.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Michaels trying to control the position from guard on top but Gordon is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Michaels is trying escape back to his feet. He turns into his opponent's guard and eventually finds his way back to his feet.

Michaels shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Still in half guard, Michaels seems content to control.

Michaels is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Michaels landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Gordon wants to get back to his feet.
Michaels slows the pace down in half guard.
Gordon is refusing to be controlled, as Michaels sits in half guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Gordon shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Gordon will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Gordon is controlling the pace.
Michaels wants to get back to his feet.
Gordon slows the pace down in half guard.
Michaels pushes Gordon off looking to stand but Gordon dives back in and keeps control.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Grant Gordon.
I think Gordon has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
