The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Afflalo shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Afflalo thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Maia's head.
Maia gets back to full guard.
Maia is trying to keep Afflalo in close.

Afflalo has gone for a leg lock! Maia slips out almost immediately though and dives into Afflalo's guard.

Afflalo has Maia pulled in close to control his posture.
Afflalo is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Afflalo really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Maia. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Maia is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Afflalo knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Maia seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Afflalo for as long as he can get away with.
Afflalo is looking to regain half guard here but Maia keeps moving and retains side control.
Maia wants to lay and pray for a moment but Afflalo keeps working.

Maia is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Afflalo is trying to escape and Maia transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Afflalo is forced to tap! Nice work there by Maia! Very nice indeed!
