Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jose Aldo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rafael Mendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jose Aldo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Rafael Mendez!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Albert Achterberg and Radbod Blank.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendez tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Aldo manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Aldo rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

and Mendez counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Aldo might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Aldo is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Mendez is controlling him.

Aldo is working an open guard so Mendez takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Mendez gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Aldo to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Mendez wriggles free and stands up.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Mendez enables Aldo to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Mendez manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Mendez is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Aldo could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Mendez wants to sweep here but Aldo controlling him for the moment.

Aldo wants to get up but he can't break Mendez's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Aldo won't allow Mendez to sweep him here.
Mendez preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Aldo knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mendez on the ground.

We're going to have a standup here because Jose Aldo wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Aldo shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Aldo showed some decent athleticism there.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Mendez gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Aldo tries to free his leg and advance position but Mendez is retaining full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Mendez avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
A combination from Aldo does no damage.
Aldo falls off balance throwing a combination
and Mendez counters with a slapping leg kick.
Aldo takes a head kick and shrugs it off.


It looks like Jose Aldo has been cut.
Aldo throws a one two combo.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Mendez tries to hold on but Aldo pushes him away.
Mendez is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Mendez is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mendez tries to lock up and control but Aldo gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Aldo is landing with some decent strikes but Mendez is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Aldo prevents Mendez from standing back up.
Aldo perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Aldo has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Aldo tries to pass to full mount but Mendez defends it.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Mendez has hold of Aldo's hands but Aldo slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Aldo slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Jose Aldo wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Aldo throws a big right hand that misses.
Aldo is looking to stand up but Mendez won't let him.
Aldo is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Aldo shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Mendez is trying to defend but Aldo finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Aldo connects with a nice short shot to Mendez's temple.
Still in half guard, Aldo seems content to control.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Aldo lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Mendez is pressing down on Aldo's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Aldo lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Mendez circles away quickly and effectively.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Aldo, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
