PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Oliver Strong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Don Shaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shaw has chosen Body Head Bangerz - Can't Be Touched as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Don Shaw acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Oliver Strong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 6 - 1, fighting out of London, Don Shaw!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Steven Brown and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shaw keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Strong misses the body punch
and Shaw connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Strong lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Shaw at a distance.
Strong misses with a body shot
and Shaw connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Shaw misses with a straight right.
A chopping leg kick lands by Shaw.
Strong throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Shaw counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Shaw just misses with a punch to the body.
Strong scores with a jab to the body.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Strong moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Shaw fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Strong avoids it really well and circles away.
Shaw takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Strong swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

and Shaw counters with a low kick, right behind Strong 's knee.

Strong throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Shaw tries to clinch but Strong is having none of it.
Shaw defending well as Strong loads up on a big left hand.
Oliver Strong seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Strong scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Strong throws a low kick, looking for Shaw's leg but Shaw calmly moves out of range.
Shaw fails in his attempt to clinch.
Strong takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Shaw takes a swing at Strong's ribcage but misses.

and Shaw cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Shaw lands a really nice looking cross but Strong seems unphased.

Strong ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Shaw moves away.

Strong feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Strong working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Shaw is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Shaw is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Strong is aware though and is defending well.

Strong throws a strike but Shaw rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Shaw seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Strong working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Shaw doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Shaw manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Strong is working hard here to advance position.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Shaw accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shaw advances to half guard.
Strong is looking to improve his position.
Shaw lands strikes from half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Shaw prevents Strong from improving his position.

Shaw takes one on the chin but keeps coming.

Strong tries to buck Shaw off but Shaw is having none of it.
Shaw is looking to take a break and control but Strong is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Strong tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Shaw wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
