PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Veneda S (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Boston Dean (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Boston Dean told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Veneda S!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Boston Dean!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Wesley Smith and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
S misses with a two punch combination.
Dean avoids a punch combination nicely.
S scoring well with a low kick there.

Dean drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Dean throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Dean postures up.

S working for a triangle but Dean defends it easily.
S working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Dean.

That's one minute gone in the round.
S trying to keep a closed guard but Dean is proving a slippery customer.
Dean trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Dean trying to control the position from guard on top but S is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
S keeping full guard, as Dean tries to pass.

S working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Dean doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Dean manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Dean stopping the sweep attempt from S.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

S wants to sweep but no luck.
Dean lands a couple of elbows.
Dean with a nice head shot there.
Dean looking to pass the guard.
Dean slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Dean throws a big right hand that misses.
S with a couple of shots from the bottom there - nothing Dean can't handle though.
Dean trying to control but S is working from the bottom.
Dean looking to pass the guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Dean got a little sloppy there for a moment and S has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Dean has managed to get both his arms back between S's legs - danger averted.
S keeping moving, preventing Dean from controlling successfully.

S not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Dean postures up in S's guard and throws a big left but S blocks it.

S looking for a sweep. Not yet S, not yet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Dean avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Dean scoring with some ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

S looking for a guillotine here but Dean defends easily.
Dean seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

S kicks Dean off and gets to his feet.

Dean gets the takedown into side control.
Dean in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
S taking a bit of punishment here - Dean scoring with strikes.
Dean is looking to take a break and control but S is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Boston Dean dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Dean misses with an uppercut.
Dean shoots for a double leg takedown but S sprawls well. He's pushed Dean's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
S bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Dean's head backwards.
S falls off balance throwing a combination

and Dean counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in S's guard now.

That's one minute gone in the round.

S is looking to sinch up a triangle. Dean throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to S's body to avoid the submission. S has instead reached around Dean's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! S arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:35 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Veneda S!
