PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Clayton Harding (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bob Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Clayton Harding!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bob Johnson!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Bruno Lombardi and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Harding moves to clinch but Johnson breaks away
and Johnson counters with a stiff right hand.


It looks like Clayton Harding has been cut.
Harding tries to clinch
and Harding takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Harding wants to clinch but Johnson slips to the side
and Johnson counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Harding displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Johnson.
Harding leaves Johnson with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Harding closes the distance but Johnson moves to the side

and Johnson counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Harding has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Johnson is working away from the top position though.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Clayton Harding has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

and Johnson counters with a single leg into guard. Harding didn't expect that.
Johnson throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Harding works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Johnson seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Harding on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Harding tries to get out of the position.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Bob Johnson hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Harding closes the distance but Johnson moves to the side
and Johnson counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Harding throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Johnson blocks it with crossed arms.
Johnson jumps guard but Harding stands there with Johnson around his waist. Johnson gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Johnson really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Harding.
Harding manages to reverse the position and now he's in Johnson's guard. Nice work there by Harding.
Johnson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Johnson closes the distance and clinches up with Harding, looking for a takedown. Johnson pushes Harding against the cage but Harding circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Well Johnson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
