PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mirco The Cop (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shane Carwin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carwin has a pretty significant injury - he really shouldn't be fighting right now but he's a warrior and he's here none the less! Shane Carwin acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mirco The Cop!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Shane Carwin!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Fedor Mirinova and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The Cop shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Carwin sprawls well. Carwin wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. The Cop gets slowly back to his feet.
Carwin looks gassed!

The Cop rushes Carwin and presses him up against the cage.
The Cop wants a takedown but no success here.
The Cop tries to score a body lock takedown but Carwin shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mirco The Cop. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Carwin gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from The Cop.
The Cop has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Carwin avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

The Cop ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. The Cop no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
The Cop wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
The Cop knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Carwin on the ground.
Carwin won't allow The Cop to get back to his feet.

The Cop's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Mirco The Cop wasn't doing enough on the ground.

The Cop gets in close and instigates a clinch.
The Cop could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

The Cop breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Carwin throws a nice looking combination but The Cop bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
The Cop fails to land with a series of punches.

The Cop has Carwin up against the cage in a clinch.
The Cop drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
The Cop drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Carwin gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Carwin tries to circle away but The Cop has him pinned against the cage.

The Cop gets control of Carwin's arms and successfully pulls guard. The Cop will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
The Cop is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Carwin is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Carwin wants to control from the top but The Cop keeps moving.

Carwin drops back looking for a leg! The Cop is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and The Cop manages to kick Carwin off! Carwin jumps back into The Cop's guard.
The Cop looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Carwin is pushing down on The Cop's leg trying to pass to half guard. The Cop is fighting to maintain full guard but Carwin has managed to sneak the leg through.
The Cop has a hand on Carwin's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Carwin takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
The Cop tries to hold on but Carwin pushes him away.
The Cop is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Carwin trying to control but The Cop is having none of it.
The Cop tries to lock up and control but Carwin gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
The Cop tries to reverse the position but Carwin maintains control.
Carwin tries to control but The Cop wriggling away.
The Cop on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if The Cop tries to get out of the position.
The Cop flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
The Cop wants to control but Carwin is having none of it.
The Cop keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Shane Carwin will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


A right-left combo lands from Carwin.
No luck with that takedown attempt from The Cop.
The Cop moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
The Cop shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Carwin defends it nicely.

The Cop gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
The Cop changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Carwin fights it off and pushes away nicely.

The Cop lands a two punch combo.
The Cop fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Carwin avoids it really well and circles away.
Carwin shoots in for a takedown but The Cop shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The Cop looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.

The Cop moves into range and clinches up with Carwin.

The Cop tries for a takedown but Carwin manages to get underhooks.
The Cop has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Carwin avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Carwin missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Carwin not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The Cop seems keen to control Carwin's posture.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Mirco The Cop just wasn't active enough.
Carwin looks to clinch

and The Cop decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Carwin's guard.
The Cop trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

The Cop drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Carwin manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now The Cop has Carwin in his guard.
The Cop wants to sweep here but Carwin controlling him for the moment.
The Cop is striking off his back. Carwin thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard.

Carwin looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Carwin tries to pass to full mount but The Cop defends it.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Carwin is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
The Cop is looking for a sweep. Carwin is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The Cop is looking to control Carwin's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can The Cop avoid being mounted?
Carwin trying to control the action but The Cop is working from the bottom.
The Cop controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mirco The Cop dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


The Cop ducks right into an uppercut from Carwin.
The Cop fails with a takedown attempt.
Carwin stuffs the takedown attempt from The Cop. The Cop gets slowly back to his feet.

The Cop moves into the clinch successfully.

Carwin decides to pull guard.
Carwin can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as The Cop controls the pace.
Carwin is looking to stand up but The Cop isn't so interested in that idea.

The Cop controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Mirco The Cop has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
The Cop dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Carwin. That did some damage!
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by The Cop!

The Cop moves into range and clinches up with Carwin.
The Cop goes for a takedown in the clinch but Carwin prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mirco The Cop. That's going to take a lot out of him.

The Cop is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Carwin tries to free his leg and advance position but The Cop is retaining full guard.
The Cop is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Carwin won't allow The Cop to sweep him here.
Carwin is looking to stand up but The Cop won't let him.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Mirco The Cop is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
The Cop shoots for a takedown but Carwin saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Carwin will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Carwin throws a left and a right that both miss
and The Cop counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.
No luck with that takedown attempt from The Cop.
The Cop displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Carwin.

The Cop rushes Carwin and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Carwin changes levels and goes for a takedown here. The Cop fights it off and pushes away nicely.

The Cop closes the distance and clinches.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Carwin tries to land a knee to the head but The Cop blocks with his arms.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. The Cop obliges.

Carwin gets control of The Cop's arms and successfully pulls guard. Carwin will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Carwin manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. The Cop manages to get himself to full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Mirco The Cop.
I think The Cop has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
