Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Nick Skerlik!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Matthew McAllister!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Skip Squint and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McAllister closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - McAllister lands in his opponent's guard.

Skerlik is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
McAllister must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Skerlik looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
McAllister passes into half guard.
Skerlik has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. McAllister is working away from the top position though.
McAllister wants to free his trapped foot but Skerlik is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Skerlik manages to get to full guard.

McAllister avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
McAllister trying to control the position from guard on top but Skerlik is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
McAllister stopping the sweep attempt from Skerlik.
McAllister pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Skerlik is keeping the position for now.

McAllister postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Skerlik is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of McAllister, into his guard.
Skerlik wants to control from the top but McAllister keeps moving.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

McAllister had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Skerlik defends it easily.
Skerlik trying to control but McAllister is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Nick Skerlik has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

McAllister decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Skerlik trying to hold on to McAllister's head to control him but McAllister postures up.
Skerlik keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.

McAllister is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
McAllister looks gassed!
Skerlik gets back to full guard.
McAllister with a flurry of punches that miss.

Skerlik has his foot on McAllister's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. McAllister works his way back into a safe position though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
McAllister is pushing down on Skerlik's leg trying to pass to half guard. Skerlik is fighting to maintain full guard but McAllister has managed to sneak the leg through.
McAllister throws a strike but Skerlik avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Skerlik has control of McAllister's left arm, preventing McAllister from doing any damage.

Skerlik working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. McAllister doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. McAllister manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
McAllister trying to control but Skerlik is working from the bottom.

McAllister looking to improve position, pressing down on Skerlik's thigh with his hand. Skerlik seems to be working to lock up a guilotine though... is McAllister paying attention? Apparently not! He's locked it up tight! McAllister's face has turned purple! Will he tap? Will he! YES! He's tapped! Skerlik picked his opening and made it count! Great finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Nick Skerlik!
