PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cole Konrad (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ross Bowron (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bowron has chosen Pow as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Cole Konrad!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Ross Bowron!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, William Gold and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bowron misses with a double jab.
Konrad closes the distance but Bowron moves to the side
and Bowron counters with a three punch combo that has Konrad backing up. Konrad nods at Bowron to acknowledge the strikes.
A right-left combo lands from Bowron.
Bowron throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Bowron connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.

Bowron throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Konrad was covering up waiting for the punch and Bowron finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Bowron got a little sloppy there for a moment and Konrad has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Bowron has managed to get both his arms back between Konrad's legs - danger averted.
Bowron in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Konrad is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Konrad is on top in guard.

Bowron manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Bowron gets a clinch.
Konrad wants a takedown.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Bowron takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Konrad tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Bowron just stands there and leans against the cage.
Bowron gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.


It looks like Cole Konrad has been cut.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Bowron prevents the takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cole Konrad. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Bowron has Konrad pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Bowron pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Konrad tumbling to the mat - Bowron dives into Konrad's guard.

Bowron wants to pass the guard but Konrad is keeping the position.
Konrad will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Bowron wants to control from the top but Konrad keeps moving.

Konrad is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Bowron is aware though and is defending well.
Konrad is breathing heavily.

Bowron engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Bowron really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Konrad. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Ross Bowron wasn't active enough on the ground.
Bowron fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Konrad has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Bowron has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Konrad avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Bowron pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Konrad could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Bowron throws a nice inside leg kick.

Bowron clinches.
Bowron stalls.
Konrad has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Bowron avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Bowron gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Konrad regains guard.
Bowron is pushing down on Konrad's leg trying to pass to half guard. Konrad is fighting to maintain full guard but Bowron has managed to sneak the leg through.
Konrad is trying to stand up here but Bowron is controlling him well.

Bowron wants to take a breather but Konrad is having none of it.

Konrad on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Well, if Bowron is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Bowron's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Bowron throws a right and a left that both miss.
Konrad tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Bowron counters with a nice body shot.
Bowron fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Konrad.
Bowron moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Konrad misses with a takedown attempt
and Bowron counters with a nice uppercut.
Some wild striking there from Bowron.

Bowron rushes Konrad and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Bowron works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Bowron stays in close to Konrad's body and controls the position.
Konrad keeping moving, preventing Bowron from controlling successfully.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Ross Bowron was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Bowron sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Konrad's guard.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

The crowd are getting on Bowron's back here. They're not happy about his lack of aggression in the clinch.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Bowron has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Bowron has picked Konrad up - he's going for a ride! Bowron dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Konrad slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Bowron drops back, looking for a kneebar! Konrad looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Konrad looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Konrad!

Bowron tries to improve position but can't.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Bowron can do anything to dispel that myth.

Konrad is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Bowron knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Konrad thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Ross Bowron is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Bowron pushes Konrad off and scrambles back to his feet.

Bowron throws a one two combo.

Bowron throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Konrad tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Bowron is in Konrad's guard.
Konrad can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Bowron controls the pace.

Konrad has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Bowron can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Bowron seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Ross Bowron hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Bowron moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ross Bowron comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Bowron has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
