PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Buhawi Jack (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Omi Sakurai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jack comes to the cage accompanied by enter sandman. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Buhawi Jack!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Omi Sakurai!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Kenichi Hosakawa and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sakurai misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

and Sakurai counters with a body kick that stops Jack in his tracks momentarily.
Sakurai throws a hook to the side of Jack's head but Jack sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Sakurai fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Jack misses with a double jab
and Sakurai counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Jack throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Sakurai scores with a nice strike.
Jack stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Jack wants it to stay on the feet.
Sakurai lands a head kick. Jack smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Jack ducks down and throws a hook to the body.

Sakurai moves out of range of the body kick.
Jack uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Sakurai.

Sakurai shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Jack as he jumps to the side.

Sakurai closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Sakurai lands in his opponent's guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Sakurai uses his free foot to push down on Jack's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Jack.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sakurai takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
