PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jordan Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Kooch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Johnson comes to the cage accompanied by The Town by Macklemore. Kooch is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Rusko - Tru Powwa. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jordan Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mike Kooch!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Stewart Dunkirk and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson looks to land a right hand but Kooch moved out of range.
Kooch shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Johnson pinned against the cage. Johnson gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Johnson throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Kooch connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Kooch tries to score a power double leg takedown but Johnson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Kooch somewhat.
Johnson misses the shot to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Johnson connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Johnson throws a poor cross that misses
and Kooch counters with a lovely shot to the body.

No joy there for Johnson, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Johnson gets caught flat footed, as Kooch shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Johnson wants to stand but Kooch is controlling the position.

Kooch looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Kooch is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

That was a close round but I would say that Jordan Johnson will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kooch has control of Johnson's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Johnson regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Kooch sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

Kooch is working for a guillotine from mount but Johnson frees his head quite easily.

Kooch won't let Johnson get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

Kooch goes for an armbar but Johnson turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Johnson.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Kooch is on top in guard.

Kooch drops back looking for a leg! Johnson is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Johnson manages to kick Kooch off! Kooch jumps back into Johnson's guard.
Kooch won't allow Johnson to get back to his feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kooch slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Kooch showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Johnson misses with an uppercut

and Kooch counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Johnson!
Johnson tries to lock up and control but Kooch gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Kooch with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Kooch wants to finish this one by submission but Johnson is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Kooch.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kooch tries to control but Johnson wriggling away.
Johnson tries to hold on but Kooch pushes him away.

Kooch won't let Johnson get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Kooch prevents Johnson from getting the reversal.

Kooch goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Johnson turns into him and now he's in Kooch's guard.

Kooch is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Johnson defends well.

Kooch is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Johnson is aware though and is defending well.
Johnson wants to get up but he can't break Kooch's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Johnson stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Johnson uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Kooch has time to react.

Kooch wants to take a breather but Johnson is having none of it.
Johnson wants to control but Kooch is keeping busy.
Johnson is refusing to be controlled, as Kooch sits in half guard.
Kooch tries to pass the half guard into mount. Johnson knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Kooch shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Johnson sprawls well. Johnson wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Kooch gets slowly back to his feet.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Kooch throws an overhand right that lands on Johnson's shoulder, as Johnson tries to avoid the shot.
Johnson misses with a shot to the body

and Kooch decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Johnson's guard.
Kooch wants to control from the top but Johnson keeps moving.
Kooch's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Mike Kooch comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Kooch has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
