PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jesus Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Adam Gontier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sanchez comes to the cage accompanied by Slayer - Jesus Saves. Gontier has chosen Three Days Grace - Break as his entrance music. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jesus Sanchez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Adam Gontier!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Alan Glass and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gontier takes a jab right on the kisser.


It looks like Adam Gontier has been cut.
Gontier keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Gontier shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Gontier is countered with a crisp right hand from Sanchez that sends him to the canvas! Sanchez follows him to the mat into side control.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Sanchez trying to control the action but Gontier is working from the bottom.

Gontier seems a little lost for a moment, as Sanchez dominates the positioning.
Gontier is not content to let Sanchez control the position.
A lull in the action here.
Gontier is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Sanchez off and has taken his back!

I really don't envy Sanchez right now.

Sanchez is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Gontier gets his way!

Gontier is persistently looking for the submission but Sanchez is defending it well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
You can see the frustration on Sanchez's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Gontier is working the ground and pound here and the referee is taking a close look at Sanchez. He must escape soon or this one will be stopped.


It looks like Jesus Sanchez has been cut.
Sanchez rolls, trying to escape but Gontier keeps control of the position.
Sanchez wants to control his opponent's hands but Gontier gets his hands free.

Gontier is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Sanchez has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
I really don't envy Sanchez right now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Sanchez holds on and takes a little breather.
Gontier is working Sanchez over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Sanchez is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Gontier with a flurry of punches that miss.
Gontier pushes down on Sanchez's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Sanchez is looking to improve his position.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Sanchez is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Gontier is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Sanchez is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Gontier defends well.

That's time! Sanchez's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Jesus Sanchez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Adam Gontier.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

and Sanchez counters by moving into the clinch.
Sanchez goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Sanchez lands a nice shot to the body.

Gontier is breathing heavily.
Sanchez pushes Gontier back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Sanchez lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Gontier backwards.
Sanchez lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Gontier backwards.
Sanchez presses Gontier against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Gontier must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Sanchez here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Gontier has gone for a leg lock! Sanchez slips out almost immediately though and dives into Gontier's guard.

Sanchez lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Sanchez connects with a couple of good shots from mount.

Sanchez is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Gontier has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Gontier tries to reverse the position but Sanchez maintains control.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Sanchez can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Gontier is looking to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Jesus Sanchez overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Sanchez lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Gontier down.
