PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Donnie Nietes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jason Miller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jason Miller is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Donnie Nietes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jason Miller!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Skip Squint and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Miller shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Nietes pinned against the cage. Nietes gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Nietes lands with a straight right. Miller didn't see that one coming.
Nietes with a jab.
Nietes digs a good hook to Miller's body.

Miller closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Nietes to the mat! Nietes manages to get full guard.
Miller seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Miller forces his way into half guard.

Miller stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Nietes lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Nietes.
Nietes scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Nietes jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Miller is trying hard to land a takedown here. Nietes sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Nietes clobbers Miller with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Miller motions for Nietes to come forward. Miller throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Nietes lands with an overhand left.
A cross from Nietes lands.
Nice uppercut lands for Nietes. That snapped Miller's head back.
Miller misses with a leg kick.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Miller takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Miller gets a clinch.
Nietes is trying to force a seperation but Miller has the dominant position.
Miller scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Nietes is trying to break the clinch but Miller is controlling him.
Miller lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Nietes is trying to stall.
The referee calls for Miller to work.
Miller presses Nietes against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Nietes wants to get back to striking at distance but Miller won't allow it.
Nietes misses with a hook to the ribs.
Miller wants a takedown.
Donnie Nietes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jason Miller.
Nietes is trying to break the clinch but Miller is controlling him.
Nietes is looking to break free of the clinch but Miller has double underhooks.
Nietes tries to circle away but Miller has him pinned against the cage.

Miller is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Nietes can't fight it off and eventually Miller manages to take the fight to the floor. Nietes looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Nietes is trying to escape the position but Miller is controlling the position.

Nietes is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Miller scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Nietes to see if he's OK.

Nietes works the jab nicely.
Nietes uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Nietes bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Miller misses with a combination
and Nietes counters with a left to the body.
Miller looks for a takedown but Nietes sprawls well.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Miller shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Nietes as he jumps to the side.

Miller shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Nietes scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Miller tries to move into range but Nietes moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Miller has a pretty nasty looking mouse under his right eye.
Nietes lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Miller backs up against the cage.
Miller takes one on the button.
Nietes smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Nietes lands with an uppercut that bounces Miller off the cage and back into rage.
Nietes lands a nice shot to the body.
Nietes connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Nietes is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Nietes scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Nietes cracks Miller with a good jab.
Nietes throws a good cross that connects.
Miller takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Nietes shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Miller eats them both and turns towards Nietes to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Miller takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Miller has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Nietes finds it's way round the side to connect with Miller's head.

A punch lands to the side of Miller 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Nietes's corner calls for a 1-2. Nietes obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Miller moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Nietes darts in and out, connecting with a jab.

Miller drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Nietes feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Millers jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Miller's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Nietes connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Miller scrambles back to his feet.
Nietes connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Nietes scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Nietes lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.

Miller takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Miller drops his hands momentarily and Nietes takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Donnie Nietes dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Miller doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Nietes connects with a looping right hand.
The crowd cheers as Nietes lands an impressive looking overhand right. Miller doesn't seem phased though.
Nietes dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Miller takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Miller takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Miller tries to close the distance and clinch up but Nietes swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Miller misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Miller feints and as Nietes raises his hands in defense, Miller changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Nietes had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Miller defends it easily.
Miller takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Nietes is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Nietes wants to sweep here but Miller controlling him for the moment.
Miller throws a big right hand that misses.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Nietes working for a triangle but Miller defends it easily.
Miller trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nietes keeping moving, preventing Miller from controlling successfully.

Nietes working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Miller doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Miller manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Nietes wants to stand but Miller is controlling the position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Donnie Nietes.
I think Nietes has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
