Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dog Beta!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Robert Minger!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Felipe Paraventi and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Beta will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Minger is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Minger throws a leg kick that is checked

and Beta counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Beta is figuring out what he wants to do next.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Dog Beta has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Minger misses with a leg kick
and Beta counters with a nice leg kick.

and Beta counters with a shoot takedown. Minger fights it but they end up in guard.

Beta has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Dog Beta wasn't doing enough on the ground.

and Beta counters with a nice leg kick.
Minger gets off balance looking for a body kick

and Beta counters with a single leg into guard. Minger didn't expect that.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Beta's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Beta is working Minger over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Beta is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Beta is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Beta is standing up over Minger. Minger looks to escape but Beta dives into side control.
Minger looks gassed!

Beta happy to just control the position for now.
Beta is working Minger over with some ground and pound from side control.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Minger throws a lazy head kick

and Beta counters with a nice double leg into side control. Minger won't be happy with that.
Beta in side control lands a decent elbow.
The referee asks Beta politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Beta prefers to stall for the moment though.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Minger can do anything to dispel that myth.
Beta seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Minger for as long as he can get away with.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Dog Beta.

and Beta counters with a good low kick that Minger was not able to check.
Minger is breathing heavily.

Beta shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Minger napping and manages to drive through into side control!
A lull in the action here as Beta stalls from top position.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

We're going to have a standup here because Dog Beta wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Beta is defended easily by Minger.

Beta throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Minger tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Beta is in Minger's guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Beta stands and throws Minger's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Minger gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Dog Beta overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Beta controlling his opponent.

Beta landing strikes from the mount.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Beta takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dog Beta dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

and Beta counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Beta is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Minger trying to get back to full guard but Beta takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
Beta tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Minger takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Minger is really trying hard to get back to his feet.

Dog Beta is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Dog Beta has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Minger enables Beta to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Minger manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Beta is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Beta's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Beta might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Beta throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Beta passes Minger's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Robert Minger has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Beta is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Minger can do to turn this around?
Well, if Beta is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Well Beta has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
