PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Ronnie Lott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ian Tate (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ronnie Lott!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ian Tate!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and .




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tate doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Lott shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Lott showed some decent athleticism there.
Lott thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Lott prevents Tate from improving his position.
Lott is nestled in close to Tate, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Tate gets back to full guard.
Lott trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lott with a flurry of punches that miss.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Tate is on top in guard.
Lott striking off his back but it's not causing Tate any problems.
Tate trying to control the position from guard on top but Lott is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Lott is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Lott is working hard here to advance position.

Lott looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Lott utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Tate won't allow Lott to sweep him here.

Lott working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Tate has passed into half guard!
Tate missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Tate with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Lott wants to get back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tate takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Lott looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Lott is breathing heavily.
Tate is controlling the pace.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Lott works his way to full guard. Good work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Lott wants to sweep here but Tate controlling him for the moment.
Tate really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lott. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Tate trying to control but Lott is working from the bottom.

Lott is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Lott looking for a sweep. Not yet Lott, not yet.
Tate wants to control from the top but Lott keeps moving.
Tate tries to stand but Lott is controlling from the bottom.

Tate decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Lott shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Tate pinned against the cage. Tate gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Lott chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Tate can pounce on him.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lott swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Tate throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Lott's head.
Lott throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Tate, right into the meat.
Tate wants to clinch.
Tate bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Lott misses with a looping left.
Tate is looking to clinch but Lott is avoiding it.
Tate tries to clinch there but Lott circles away.

Tate decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Tate with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Nice strikes from Tate there.

Lott looking for submissions off his back.
Tate working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Tate seems to be looking for submissions.
Tate moves into full mount! Lott won't be happy about that!
Tate looking to control but Lott is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Lott is trying to escape the mount.
Tate tries to control but Lott wriggling away.
Lott is looking to get to half guard.
Lott regains half guard.
Tate trying to control from half guard but Lott is working away.
Lott gets full guard.
Lott wants to hit a switch here but Tate passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Lott there!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Ian Tate will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Tate looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Some wild striking there from Lott.
Tate looks for a takedown but Lott sprawls well.
Lott throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Lott throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

Lott looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Tate is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Lott pulls his head out easily.
Lott thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Tate is looking to control Lott's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Tate avoid being mounted?
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Lott scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Lott throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Lott not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Lott is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Lott is working for a kimura but Tate is defending it quite comfortably.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Lott scores with a jab.
Lott fails to land with a series of punches.
Tate slips under a jab.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Lott.
Lott working the ground and pound but Tate is defending the strikes.
Lott in side control lands a decent elbow.
Tate takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Lott tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Lott has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Lott has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Lott is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Tate knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Lott looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Tate is avoiding damage well.

Lott looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Lott tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Tate wants to control but Lott postures up.

Lott has an Americana. Tate didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Lott is delighted and gyrates infront of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Lott hooks up with any of them at the after show party.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Ronnie Lott!
