Hughes has chosen Far From Over as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Alexandre Firmino and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hughes closes the distance looking to clinch
and Mangabeira counters with a straight right hand.

and Hughes takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

A head kick by Hughes misses
and Mangabeira counters with a nice uppercut.

Mangabeira feints and as Hughes raises his hands in defense, Mangabeira changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Mangabeira slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Mangabeira tries for a kimura but Hughes is defending well.
Mangabeira misses with the ground and pound.

Mangabeira throws an elbow but Hughes slips to the side and avoids it well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Mangabeira tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Mangabeira has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mangabeira is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Hughes looks calm but he's in trouble here. Mangabeira gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Hughes is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Mangabeira lets go of the hold and Hughes can pop his arm back in it's socket.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:02 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Rodrigo Mangabeira!
