Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Dan Machida!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Tomasz Szczerek!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Johanna Lukiainen and Matti Vanhoillinen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Szczerek shoots in and gets a takedown into Machida's guard.
Machida wants to get back to his feet but Szczerek is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Szczerek trying to control the position from guard on top but Machida is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Szczerek slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Machida wants to stand and escape but Szczerek is having none of it.
Szczerek controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Machida keeping moving, preventing Szczerek from controlling successfully.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Tomasz Szczerek wasn't active enough on the ground.
Machida throws a head kick but Szczerek moves out of range.
Machida is breathing heavily.
Szczerek closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Szczerek lands in his opponent's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Szczerek stands and throws Machida's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Machida knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Szczerek on the ground.
Szczerek is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Machida is trying to escape and Szczerek transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Machida is forced to tap! Nice work there by Szczerek! Very nice indeed!
